A 71-year-old retired police officer and his wife had just withdrawn money from the bank when they were confronted by two men, one of whom approached them on foot as his accomplice stood by on a motorcycle.

CCTV footage captured the struggle with the thieves. At one point, as a result of the tug-of-war, the woman falls to the ground, but she and her husband continue to hold onto the bag in which they presumably carried the money.

One of the criminals pulled out what appeared to be a firearm and proclaimed "I'm going to hurt you, I'm going to hurt you, don't you understand I'm going to hurt you?" The retired policeman fell on the ground, but he was able to grab his weapon and fire two shots at the robber's chest.

The accomplice sped off on his bike. The robber tried to follow him, but ended up collapsing. It was later revealed that the object he used to threaten the couple was a metal replica of a 9mm pistol

To me, it looks like the woman had the gun and he is pulling it out of her bag... otherwise, getting into a fight like that over a bag is pretty stupid.
