The 62-year-old retired staff sergeant argued with a woman near their vehicles at the North Lauderdale Walmart around 12:30 p.m. Video showed her drawing a handgun, warning him to back off while on her phone, then firing once as he approached with empty hands. He suffered an abdominal wound, was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. The shooter stayed at the scene claiming self-defense; no charges yet as investigators review footage under Florida's stand-your-ground law, leaving his family, including a recently reconciled daughter, in mourning.
