The 62-year-old retired staff sergeant argued with a woman near their vehicles at the North Lauderdale Walmart around 12:30 p.m. Video showed her drawing a handgun, warning him to back off while on her phone, then firing once as he approached with empty hands. He suffered an abdominal wound, was rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. The shooter stayed at the scene claiming self-defense; no charges yet as investigators review footage under Florida's stand-your-ground law, leaving his family, including a recently reconciled daughter, in mourning.

@JobyFluorine Second thing I bought after the gun. A gun safe. Can be accessed via key, PIN, fingerprint or phone via Bluetooth. Showed a black guy at work. He says, "Yeah I gotta get one of those". He has grandchildren. You know there are at least 2 guns in that house. Probably one on top of the refrigerator and one stuffed in the couch with the missing remote.

@ScreaminMime are they advancing towards you when you get out of your vehicle with a firearm brandished. Even in open carry states, you cannot brandish your firearm to use it for intimidation before confrontation. This is what could qualify it for 1st degree.
