@0falcon0 While a bolt from a crossbow has no where near as much KE as a 9x19 para bellum, with proper shot placement they can be very effective against even large game animals, including bears.

@AryanLegend Brown bear, grizzly bear, don't attack humans in hunger. Their attack on humans are almost always defensive. Only polar bears are known to attack humans as potential prey for food.

@Tuukka In case of Timothy Treadwell, he had repeated close contact for 13 years and the bears became habituated and became conditioned. Still, out of many bears present, ONLY ONE bear was involved in the actual attack and feeding on Timothy Treadwell and his partner. This is extremely rare.

@Charles_muller Per stats, there are more women killed or attacked in the woods by a men than a bear. And gruff utterance is not doing to scare off a man as it did with a bear.

@FacelessMen You said per stats? For women, being alone with a bear is a rare event. But a woman crossing the path of a man is something that happens numerous times every day in North America, like in national parks, in regional reserves, etc.; I already saw it. Sometimes they smile at the man, or they just say Hi!

But when a woman is saying she would rather be alone with a bear, she is comparing two situations with a ratio of one to one.

@Charles_muller Yes. I stated "stats", not ratio. You're probably right as 1 to 1 that the bears will have much higher ratio of attacks. But I guess we will never know from 1 to 1 encounter ratio since bears usually avoid people in the wild.
