“Pure evil”: Teacher rapes and kills adopted 13 month old baby boy, leaving him with 40 injuries in just four months and recorded it on Snapchat.

Jamie Varley a teacher from Blackpool, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley adopted 13-month-old Preston Davey in 2023. The baby died after months of horrific sexual and physical abuse at their hands.

Varley was found guilty of murder, multiple counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, child cruelty, and taking/distributing indecent images of the child. Snapchat videos he recorded showed the abuse. McGowan-Fazakerley was found guilty of causing and allowing the death of a child, cruelty, and sexual assault.

Preston suffered more than 40 injuries, including a broken elbow and seizures, before dying from airways obstruction likely smothering. Varley claimed the baby drowned in the bath.

A UK court has found schoolteacher Jamie Varley, 37, guilty of the sexual abuse and murder of his 13-month-old adopted son, Preston Davey.

Varley, a head of year at a secondary school in Lancashire, and his partner John McGowan-Fazakerley (a financial sales manager) had adopted little Preston (birth name Elijah).
Over just four months, the baby suffered unimaginable abuse: more than 40 separate injuries, routine ill-treatment, physical assaults, and sexual abuse.

Disturbing evidence included videos and photos showing Preston being deliberately kept awake for amusement, with music from Moana blaring while he was visibly exhausted, along with other acts of cruelty like spinning him too hard and leaving him in dangerous positions.

He died from acute upper airways obstruction, believed to be caused by smothering or objects being forced into his mouth.

Varley was convicted of:
▫️Murder
▫️Multiple counts of assault by penetration and sexual assault of a child
▫️Cruelty to a child
▫️Taking and distributing indecent images

His partner was found guilty of allowing the death of a child, child cruelty, and sexual assault.

Prosecutors described it as one of the most shocking cases they've seen. Police called Varley a "serial manipulator and serial liar" and referred to "pure evil."

Little Preston went from a happy, healthy baby to a "broken shell" in his final months.

Both men will be sentenced on Thursday
