Rushing into the ocean my ass. They didn't even get their feet wet. And if she was out any further you know they would have just let her drown.

The water must be prejudiced

A hero is a fellow human who put him or her self somehow in harms or dangers way to help another person. Other than that you're "just" a good fellow human.
Simple as that in my book.

I'm not trying to diminish the work that our first responders do, but at no point was there any jeopardy to their lives in this video. It's not like they dove into 28°F water in the Grand Banks, or into a building that's a blazing inferno. They waded into water deep enough to get their socks wet. I wouldn't call them hereos.

I was coming home from the gas station last year, and some ancient dude on a mobility scooter somehow drove off the edge of the sidewalk and tipped over into the street. Am I a hero for helping him out of the street before the light turned green and righting his scooter? No. Civic duty doesn't make you a hero, imho.

@JobyFluorine You would be a hero depending on the narrative and your position. Optics!

@essence25 Yeah, optics. That's what it's all about, I guess.

"Look how helpful our LEOs are!" Idk, it's a complicated subject.

Thanks officers, took a lot of courage to rush into the 2 foot deep ocean! Hero’s?….That’s a stretch though.

@Bellybutton 6 inches, my mistake!

@Bellybutton Well considering they fit one of the definitions of a Hero, yes they are(Emergency Responders). It is their job, but I did not see anyone else( including you) run out drag her ashore and Preform Medical Resuscitation (CPR) on her. Which fits Definition (see below) #3, Right?

noun

1- In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods.

2- A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life.
"soldiers and nurses who were heroes in an unpopular war."

3- A person noted for special achievement in a particular field: synonym: Doctors or Nurses.
"the heroes of medicine."

@Bellybutton
"B-b-b-but my socks got wet! And these are new oxfords!" Officer Savetheday, probably.
