A former employee at the Trader Joe’s on California and Hyde stole a bottle of wine before the store opened Friday morning. Staff yelled at him to leave as he fled with it. Officers who were already in the parking lot investigating a vehicle fire gave chase. The suspect resisted, leading to a struggle on the ground in the street. A Lexus SUV then struck all three — the suspect and two officers. The shoplifter was killed. One officer was pinned under the car and both suffered leg injuries but are expected to recover. The driver stayed and is cooperating. Another wild theft on San Francisco streets ends in tragedy. How many more of these chaotic scenes are we going to see before something actually changes?
