A woman was swallowed up by a manhole after its lid gave way in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on Rua Oto de Alencar, in front of a school. A woman walking on the sidewalk and looking at her phone stepped on the manhole lid, which suddenly gave way.
Security camera footage captured the moment she fell into the hole, hit her head on the structure, and disappeared inside. The motorcyclist who had just dropped her off rushed to help. Firefighters rescued her and took her to Hospital Federal do Andaraí with moderate injuries.
