Truck driver runs over suspected criminal to escape fake checkpoint on Mexican highway

A video circulating on social media shows a truck driver ramming into alleged robbers who were trying to stop his vehicle in the Cumbres de Maltrata area , heading towards Veracruz on the Puebla-Orizaba highway .

According to the publication, the incident occurred at kilometer 240+000 between La Estancia and Cesilio Terán , in the area known as Cumbres de Maltrata on the Esperanza - Ciudad Mendoza highway section.

The recording shows how several subjects with high-powered laser devices position themselves on the asphalt road at a curve to force the heavy vehicle to stop.

However, the truck driver did not stop at an alleged attempted robbery and apparently ran over at least one person identified as a possible criminal, who died between the wheels of the truck.

So far, the authorities have not released any official information about these events nor has the identity of the alleged criminal who was run over been confirmed.

According to the truckers' union, this video, which quickly went viral, highlights the insecurity faced by freight transport operators on the Puebla-Orizaba highway, known for being one of the most dangerous roads in the country due to constant robberies.
