Police have released CCTV footage showing a disturbing early morning attempt to torch a business in Kilkenny that ended in complete failure after the fire failed to ignite.
The incident unfolded just after 6am when three masked individuals arrived at a premises on Humphries Terrace. CCTV shows the trio dressed in hoodies and face coverings as they move onto the property and begin forcing their way through a metal fence.
After struggling to gain entry, the group is seen allegedly pouring what appears to be petrol from jerry cans around the front of the building. Moments later, they attempt to ignite the fuel.
But the plan quickly collapses when the fire fails to take hold.
In what police describe as an unsuccessful arson attempt, the suspects then flee the scene on foot, leaving behind damage but no major blaze.
Authorities are now reviewing the footage and appealing to the public for information, urging anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
Investigators are treating the matter as deliberate and targeted, with inquiries ongoing into the identities of those involved.
Police say it could have easily turned into something far more dangerous if the ignition had worked as intended.
