I believe this is actually ‘speed tape,’ a temporary fix for aircrafts for non critical fixes

This is speed tape, absolutely fine for covering cosmetic damage until it can be fixed.

Source: I was in Aviation Maintenance for a while.

Dad was a race mechanic that worked on Cobras.....he called it 100mph tape because it held up to that speed..Wonder if gorilla (chimp) tape goes to 400?

@GACannonGuy we call it speed tape nowadays.

Holy shit! What about that crack?? This has to be fake.

I'd be more concerned about the crack on the front of the wing that he seems to be ignoring.

Just keep the plane's speed below 100 mph and it'll hold just fine.

@L.X By looking that this video, this airplane is Boeing 737-900 ER. I can tell by the two emergency exit doors above the wing and another 12 windows back. To sustain flight, this aircraft needs a minimum of 130 knots or 150 mph.

@L.X Sarcasm

Aviation tape is rated for 600 mph, and 80% ratio rating for temp from -65 F to 300 F.

Why do people still think it's duct tape?

Too many stupid people.

2 +1 L.X 4 weeks ago

@Cripple Cause most people use duct tape and are not well versed in aviation repair?

@L.X
This stuff has been posted on every social media site for the past 10 years.
It's like being surprised a suicide bomber was muslim.

Common. Speed tapes are used to covering small gaps or seal minor skin cracks temporary. It's FAA approved! LOL.
