RISING SUN, Md. (WBAL) - Authorities in Cecil County, Maryland, are searching for a truck driver who flew by a stopped school bus and narrowly missed hitting two children.

The frightening incident was caught on camera.

Marks along a grass embankment and security video obtained from Duvall’s Lawn and Garden show just how close two girls, 7 and 11, came to being hit.

A school bus stopped on Telegraph Road in Rising Sun, Maryland, to pick up the children.

Cecil County sheriff’s deputies said the bus had its flashing lights on, warning drivers they needed to stop, but video shows a Toyota pickup truck pulling to the right and going around the bus.

The pickup truck passed between the bus door and the children who were about to board, nearly hitting them.

The mother of the 7-year-old was standing nearby, helplessly watching.

“She was visibly upset and shaking,” said Brandon Stewart, the 7-year-old’s father.

Shawn Kennedy, the 11-year-old’s father, said he watched the camera footage.

“I mean, it’s just crazy. That’s all I can say,” he said.

Cameras on the bus also captured images of the truck.

“It’s very disturbing that somebody doesn’t have the common sense to wait five seconds so kids can get on the bus,” Stewart said.

Cecil County sheriff’s deputies are trying to identify the driver.

The sheriff’s office also issued a BOLO for the Toyota pickup.

“This was a very dangerous incident. This person did this at high speed. We don’t know why the person was doing this, why the person chose to pass the school bus in that manner. Was the person in a hurry, committing a crime? That’s all the stuff we’re looking at,” Capt. Michael Holmes of the Cecil County sheriff’s office said.

Kennedy said he talked to his daughter when she got home that day.

“I said, ‘Are you OK?’ She said, ‘Yes, but dad, if I took one or two more steps, that truck would have hit me.’ That’s what hit me the worst,” he said.

The two fathers said that while in school, counselors assisted the girls and allowed them to talk about the scary incident.

First, why isn't there camera footage of the truck as it approaches the bus and after it has passed the truck? Maryland is a leftist state that considers all citizens criminals, so isn't there more video? Second, and more importantly, why doesn't the bus driver take a more defensive position as they stop to drop off or pick up children? Me personally, if'n I was a bus driver, I'd block the entire travel lane as well as the majority of the shoulder of the road, and I'd probably get off my ass and get out of the bus to make sure I had eyes on the children and the traffic as I loaded and unloaded the bus. It's such an easy job, but it's soooo hard to get anyone to work nowadays. People are so lazy, it's impossible to get them to just do the simplest jobs, let alone do that one job correctly.

@JobyFluorine Look at the video closely, the Toyota pick up drove over the curb, despite the bus driver having parked correctly with the red lights on
