In an interview with Action News 5 in Memphis, the man who captured the video said he and his friends were "beating their chests" in front of the enclosure, not really expecting anything to happen. The incident happened on Feb. 26.

 

The zoo noted that the bonobo habitat is constructed with multiple layers of reinforced glass, and only an interior pane of glass was smashed.

 

The exhibit was temporarily closed to replace the glass, while the zoo emphasized the importance of respectful conduct.
