A chaotic scene outside of a popular bar in Redlands was caught on camera over the weekend. The incident left four people hospitalized after a driver crashed into a crowd early Sunday morning, leading to gunfire.
According to the Redlands Police Department, an altercation involving several people took place in front of The Underground, a popular restaurant and bar, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. One of the involved individuals left the area a few moments later behind the wheel of a 2022 Tesla.
The cell phone video then shows the moments when the person returned to the scene, driving east on Citrus Avenue, before plowing into a group of people who were standing on the street outside The Underground. The driver then lost control and crashed into the curb, police said.
Just seconds after the crash, at least six gunshots can be heard ringing out as the crowd scatters.
"Seeing it was pretty scary, cause shots being popped off? Redlands is a really calm city and you don't really see that happening much here," said Eric Gonzales, who witnessed the incident.
The driver of the Tesla fled the scene, going west on Citrus before police arrived, leaving behind a trail of fluids from the damaged vehicle.
A total of four people were transported to a local hospital with major injuries after the crash. All four remained hospitalized on Monday, police said.
Witnesses said that the altercation began inside the bar, which led to the involved people getting kicked out into the street, where the chaos erupted.
Two businesses in the area were struck by gunfire, including Bruno Bianchi's Performance Fitness Studio. He said that police called him to report that his window was shattered by a bullet.
"Today, nobody got hit. But how many more incidents are going to happen until someone gets hit?" Bianchi said. "In this location, it was kind of like a nice city, family oriented and so on. People is not used to this."
As of Monday morning, no arrests have been announced.
