Shocking: Mother, 2 sons hit by out-of-control SUV while walking out of preschool in New Jersey

FREEHOLD, N.J. - A mother and her two young children are recovering from injuries after they were hit by an out-of-control SUV outside a New Jersey preschool. The crash happened around 3 p.m. Friday as Patrice Pisani and her two sons left the Bloom Academy in Freehold. Surveillance video shows the family walk out the preschool’s front doors and head toward their car. At the same time, all three seem to notice the oncoming gray SUV, allegedly driven by another parent picking up a child. With her right hand, Pisani grabs her oldest son and tries to get to her youngest as the SUV slams into them, knocking the mother and her youngest son to the ground. Staffers and parents are then seen running out of the preschool’s front doors to help. Pisani’s youngest son took the brunt of the impact, with video showing the tire bounce on top of his leg, knocking off his shoe. The little boy is being treated for a leg injury and burns from the undercarriage of the car, his mother says. Pisani herself suffered injuries to her back and neck from being hit by the car. She says the driver was arrested by police and charged with driving while intoxicated. The SUV damaged a column at the preschool’s front door and destroyed a plastic railing leading to the building. The staff at Bloom Academy released the following statement: “We are deeply saddened by this incident. While we are grateful that the injury was not more severe, we remain committed to the safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff.” Police are investigating the incident.
