Terrifying scenes unfolded midair as a passenger plane was forced to fly with a severely damaged engine following an explosion during a domestic flight in Nigeria.

The Arik Air Boeing 737 was traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt when its left engine reportedly exploded midair, leaving it charred and shredded. The aircraft diverted and made an emergency landing in Benin. All 80 passengers survived.

Looks like they forgot to latch the engine covers and the cowling shredded. The engine was fine, shut down after the panels ripped off standard!

It seems to me that the first reflex in this kind of situation for the pilot is to take the microphone and say: Shut your mouths, we can very well land with only one engine.
