Robbery of a businessman goes wrong in Mexico

On Tuesday afternoon, two armed men attempted to rob an avocado farmer in Uruapan. To the gunmen's surprise, the white pickup truck their target was traveling in had armed escorts , and the attempted robbery ended with one assailant shot and his accomplice on the run. The incident occurred on the Viaducto a Jicalán, near the Mediterránea condominiums. Security cameras captured the moment two men on a motorcycle approached a white pickup truck with the intention of stealing the vehicle from its occupants. One of the assailants got off the motorcycle and approached the rear passenger door. At that moment, a bodyguard riding in the back of the vehicle responded with a burst of gunfire . The assailant tried to flee on foot, while his accomplice, attempting to escape, lost his balance and also fled down the avenue. One of the alleged assailants, a 29-year-old man, collapsed a few meters away next to a brick wall. On the ground and still injured, he was subdued by one of the bodyguards. Witnesses called emergency services. Civil Protection paramedics arrived at the scene and treated at least seven gunshot wounds to the assailant's chest and lower extremities. He was taken to a regional hospital under police custody. His accomplice remains at large. Local authorities deployed an operation in the area after the shooting and have already begun the corresponding investigations to find the whereabouts of the second person involved.
