Skateboarder critically injured in California hit-and-run

video released Monday captured the moment a hit-and-run driver struck a skateboarder in L.A.’s Chatsworth neighborhood last week, critically injuring the man, police said.

The violent collision happened around 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 15 along Nordhoff Street near Lurline Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Investigators said the skateboarder, described as a man in his 30s, was traveling westbound when he was hit by a four-door gray Ford Fusion. The impact threw him from the skateboard and into the roadway near the curb.

Video of the crash shows the sedan veering into the skateboarder, sending him violently onto the pavement before the vehicle speeds away. A screenshot from the footage shows the gray car mid-turn as the skateboarder is thrown from his board.

Instead of stopping, the driver continued westbound, made a U-turn and fled eastbound on Nordhoff Street without identifying themselves or rendering aid, police said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics rushed the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Authorities are now searching for the suspect vehicle, which has several identifying features, including a light gray repaint on the front right fender, white tape around the edges of both rear headlamps and possibly tinted rear windows.

Police reminded drivers that anyone involved in a crash is legally required to stop, call for emergency help and remain at the scene.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered through the city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver.
