The US Navy's electromagnetic railgun prototypes targeted ranges of 100-110 nautical miles (about 185-204 km) at 32 MJ muzzle energy, with potential for up to 200 nm at higher energies. The program was canceled in 2021 due to technical issues, but Trump's Dec 2025 battleship proposal hints at revival—though it's not operational yet.

That tank is going to need a long extension cord, 10 gauge with 40 amps minimum.

@Comfortably_numb And a couple honda generators taped to the skirts.

Half the visuals are sci-fi non sense. But it exists.
The US stopped developing the Rail Gun, as it needs retrofitting the barrel every dozen or so shots, which is not viable for the long operations the US navy does.
Japan though continues developing it.

Pop an EMP anywhere near the power source and the rail gun is DEAD.

@kma8675309 True Story

This is old news, and currently unsuitable for mobile application (i.e. battleships, tanks, aircraft, etc), due to the huge power requirement and overheating issues...

No doubt they'll overcome these limitations in the not too distant future, and when they do, it will be one hell of a weapon for the US to have at its disposal.

Lol only electricity they say. The ships would need a nuclear reactor to power these weapons and the reactor would be very vulnerable

5 +1 ElMarko64 3 months ago

@dingus369 We have nuclear powered ships now.

4 +1 ulfsark9 3 months ago

@dingus369 Yeah, we already have nuclear powered ships.
What you think our Submarines run on? Fucking diesel?
