«In a godless, communist nation like China, it's no surprise human life is treated cheaply. Without a gun, you run the risk of getting severely wounded trying to stop a stabbing attack. I would at least look for some long weapon like a 2x4 if I were going to intervene. The average untrained person trying to intervene unarmed is basically committing suicide.
In places like NYC you very well might see this happening soon, because good samaritans face legal consequences for intervening. That's if you don't get killed. And to top it all off: ungrateful, toxic women in abusive relationships frequently defend their abusers.
