The Tallahassee Police Department released edited and narrated body-cam video footage of a violent encounter with a trespassing suspect that left an officer shot and injured by his own gun.

TPD posted a nearly eight-minute video that it said captured the events that led to a fight between the officer, whose name was not released, and the suspect, Willis Adams.

The officer was shot in the hand as he and Adams fought for control of his gun. He was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and later released.

"Dispatch, he's got my gun. He's got my gun. I'm shot. I'm shot," the officer says in the closing seconds of the video.

Adams was apprehended shortly after the shooting and arrested on a charge of attempted homicide.

«If an officer can't defeat the majority of people in hand to hand then the only thing they can do is shoot people who don't comply. Seems to me like a training problem. I'm no expert on the subject but I'd like to know how many hours of boxing, kickboxing, jiujitsu, wrestling, judo and sparring most Police officers go through before they're handed a gun. I'd wager it's not as much as it should be.»

«@Viletree Cops have been neutered by shitlib courts. They can't use batons or chokeholds and ever since St. Floyd overdosed, cops second-guess themselves in life-or-death situations.»

«@WonkasWilly don't get me wrong, I respect good officers. I've worked with them in the past and the subject came up once when they were talking about a martial arts training seminar they had to go to. I found out that they didn't have a fraction of the fight training they should have. That's just in that city so I don't know about the other departments but this department had to kill criminals three or four times collectively that I know of in the time I worked with them so it wasn't the best neighborhood. They should be required to have dozens of hours of hand to hand combat before becoming officers in my opinion. Maybe even hundreds of hours. It would be useful to them.»

«@Viletree I agree, and don't know why any officer wouldn't train on their own.»

«@WonkasWilly it takes a strange and perhaps deranged mentality to enjoy it. They are being paid as warriors/protectors so their incentives should be financial. The percentage of the population that enjoy such things is so miniscule that we can't rely on individual motivation amongst the police force. It must be a job requirement for it to be implemented. That's just my opinion.»
