DeHart was arrested on Tuesday after a five-day manhunt and charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon.
He made his first court appearance on Thursday and was arraigned but has not yet entered a plea.
DeHart's brother, Marcus DeHart, was arrested for aiding his brother after the shooting and is charged with being an accessory after the fact to a crime.
At McCowan's funeral, he was remembered for his service to others even before following his dream to become a law enforcement officer.
'If you were in harm´s way, he would stand in harm's way for you even before he became a police officer. That was just Greg,' friend Greg Willis said.
'He went out doing what he loved. That was his dream to be a police officer. What more could you ask for (than) to go out doing what you love?'

«Professional VICTIMS. The 1st cop was MORE than polite ans reasonable. Thank GOD they do have body cameras and audio. Amazing how the ish hit the fan when he REFUSED to get out of the car. Knowing he was armed. Got his "mawmaw" on the phone to give off the image this animal was actually HUMAN. This folks....this is a case study on WHY cops have it awful. Case study on WHY cops get squirrely when dealing with fools like DeHart. When backed into a corner, pull the race card, ALWAYS. He refused to let a white female cop take him down. I'd love to know if there was drugs in the vehicle, or was he driving around previously with some blazing homeboy. This cop deserves a metal. The fallen cop deserves honors. «Noticed the cop that pulled the suspect over made a huge mistake. After the suspect pulled over, the cop told the suspect to "drive" the car to another location and park. This action can be used against the police. If you were pulled over for "under the influence" and the police command you to drive again, police become liable for creating dangerous condition for both the driver and everyone else. They can be sued. I've seen many DUI cases dismissed because of this.»
