There is a longer version of this video which explains the rest of the story. This is a juvenile male Giant Squid which floated to the surface to die after a scuffle with some other creature. In the extended video you can see that its skin is ripped, scarred, peeling and white, all signs of imminent death. Its behaviour of latching onto the board to stay afloat also supports the fact that is is severely wounded. It is a frequent behaviour of Giant Squid to head to the surface to die. This one in particular is not big enough to be an adult Giant Squid, it must be a juvenile. In the extended version, you can actually see it release sperm on the beach towards the end of the video. It is doing this as a last second attempt at reproduction as they are about to die in the hopes that the sperm will be able to find a nearby Giant Squid female's eggs. This also proves that it is a juvenile male, since Giant Squid don't reproduce/mate frequently and only release their limited sperm on rare occasions. This particular Giant Squid was too young to have found a mate yet, so it released its only sperm as it was dying in a last ditch effort to reproduce. As for the injuries, they are likely a result of a scuffle with a large whale, shark, or even a larger Giant Squid (perhaps while trying to mate). The people in the video aren't at fault here because the squid was about to die and if anything they put it out of its misery by taking it
