A racist knifeman caught on newly released video repeatedly stabbing a stranger aboard a Los Angeles Metro bus, then kicking him in the head after he collapsed, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison. Gerald Pitts, 67, of Santa Monica, was sentenced for the attempted murder of Santos Tejas Gonzalez during what prosecutors described as a brutal, unprovoked hate crime on March 25, 2023. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office released the never-before-seen footage Thursday, showing the shocking attack that nearly killed Gonzalez. According to prosecutors, Gonzalez boarded a Metro bus at about 9 p.m. and tried to walk past Pitts to take a seat when Pitts immediately began shouting racial slurs. Rather than confront him, Gonzalez tried to leave the bus at the next stop at Western Avenue and Exposition Boulevard. Even after Gonzalez fell from the bus, the attack continued. Prosecutors said Pitts repeatedly kicked the wounded man in the head while continuing to yell racial slurs. Gonzalez survived despite suffering life-threatening injuries. “A hate crime is more than just a criminal act against one person, it tears at the fibers that hold our community together,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. One person is injured after a stabbing at the Valley Fair Mall. According to the West Valley City Police Department (WVCPD), they responded to the Valley Fair Mall shortly before 3:00 p.m. for reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found that a male suspect approached a male employee who was working at a kiosk at the Valley Fair Mall. The suspect pulled out a knife and began to stab the employee multiple times. Several bystanders interfered and were able to separate the suspect from the victim, subduing the suspect until police arrived. When officers arrived, they were able to take the suspect into police custody. The victim was transported to a hospital where they are undergoing surgery. A completely innocent 29-year-old man chased down and stabbed to death in broad daylight because some teenage gang members (Stokey16) got a text telling them to put “notches on your blade” or get kicked out. Random target. No reason. Just pure evil for clout. The part where Joshua collides with the little girl on roller skates while running for his life, then actually pauses to check if she’s okay before they catch up and stab him… that’s heartbreaking. He was trying to get into a shop for safety and still showed basic human decency in his final moments. Theo Momodu (who admitted it), Taylar Isaac, and David Kerrigan all got life sentences. Good. But it doesn’t bring Joshua back, and it doesn’t fix the broken culture that turns kids into killers over gang nonsense. Senseless waste of life. Rest in peace to Joshua White.
