officer flips his SUV while perusing 2 felons who had just robbed a store on Saturday morning WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man and woman are facing charges after an armed robbery in Winston-Salem and a pursuit that left a police vehicle overturned and an officer hurt, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release. On Friday, at 5:36 p.m., Winston-Salem officers responded to a report of a robbery at the Subway located on 1527 Peter’s Creek Parkway. A customer said a man and a woman came in, and the man robbed him. When the customer tried to confront the suspects, the man pulled out a gun. The two suspects then drove away. The business itself was not robbed. WSPD detectives identified 26-year-old Jashawn Jawan Spruill and 28-year-old Katlynn Dazjahnae Bethea as potential suspects and identified the suspect vehicle. A warrant was obtained for Spruill for robbery with a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed gun. On Saturday, around 6:57 a.m., WSPD officers found the suspect vehicle parked in front of a home on Northwest Boulevard. When officers tried to approach it, the vehicle drove away, and a pursuit began. The pursuit entered US 421 northbound from Peter’s Creek Parkway. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle going west on US 421. The suspect continued to flee, and a WSPD officer used his vehicle to try to stop the suspect vehicle and end the pursuit, police say. During the maneuver, both vehicles hit the center concrete median barrier, and the officer’s vehicle overturned onto the roof. A second WSPD officer used his vehicle to stop the suspect vehicle and end the pursuit on US 421 near Peter’s Creek Parkway. Aftermath The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as Bethea, and Spruill was a passenger. Both were taken into custody. A teenage juvenile was also in the vehicle but was released to the custody of an adult and was not a suspect in the robbery. The WSPD officer whose vehicle overturned was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. The officer has since been released. No other officers were injured. Bethea reported minor injuries and was treated by EMS. The other people in the suspect vehicle were not hurt. The Greensboro Police Department said the use of deadly force was legally justified in an officer-involved shooting case that happened back in Aug. 2025. The announcement came during a press conference the department held on Monday afternoon, where police released body-worn camera footage from the day of the incident. Here's some background. According to police, an officer was flagged down at approximately 4:06 p.m. on Marion Street by a resident who reported a trespasser. The resident directed the officer to 48-year-old Said Ezzine, who was accused of being on private property without permission. Police said the officer approached Ezzine to investigate. According to the department, Ezzine refused to follow repeated commands and then pulled out a weapon and moved toward the officer. The officer then fired back, striking Ezzine. Police said that the officer called for emergency medical services and began life-saving efforts. Ezzine was later pronounced dead at the scene. In the footage, seen by WFMY News 2 reporter Amber Lake, the officer says to Ezzine, "Come here, friend, I just need to talk to you." Ezzine says, "Don't start," as he walks away. "Don't follow me." The officer made repeated commands to stop. Ezzine went into a shed on the property and then came at the officer with a weapon. The officer asks him to get on the ground. The Wilmington Police Department is investigating two separate stabbing incidents that happened early Sunday morning downtown. Officers responded around 2:10 a.m. to a large fight in the 100 block of North Front Street, where they found two adult men suffering from stab wounds. Both were taken to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. About two minutes later, officers were called to a second, unrelated fight in the 0 block of North Front Street. At that scene, police found an adult woman with stab wounds. She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the two incidents are not believed to be connected. Stanley Police responded to a shooting on East Dallas Rd. This incident involved a domestic-related dispute between two family members that escalated into violence. The suspect, Christopher Monique McDowell (DOB 5/18/1994) of Stanley, fired multiple shots at the victim, who is his uncle. The victim was struck and transported to the hospital for medical treatment. He is expected to survive. Officers arrived within seconds, immediately provided medical aid, and took the suspect into custody without further incident. This was an isolated incident stemming from a family dispute. There is no threat to the greater community. The suspect has been apprehended and remains in custody. Happened early Sunday morning off Smith Farm Rd. in NW Charlotte. Officer is ok, minor injuries. Tanaezah Michelle Austin. She’s the 25 year old woman who police say sped off and left the scene after hitting the officer. They arrested her today. She is still in jail, for now, being held on a $3,000 secured bond.
