A Polk County pastor is accused of using his position of trust to groom a 14-year-old boy online, sexually abuse him and expose him to HIV. Timothy Chaneyfield, 42, was arrested after Polk County Sheriff's Office investigators received a cyber tip from Instagram about inappropriate activity between an adult and child. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Tuesday that Chaneyfield was a pastor at St. James United American Free Will Baptist Church, a hospice chaplain and a former Polk County Schools employee, and used a dating app to find the teen before moving conversations to Instagram. Investigators say Chaneyfield picked up the boy from his neighborhood three times, took him to his Eagle Lake home and sexually abused him. He groomed a child online, drove to the child’s neighborhood, picked him up, took him to his home, had sex with him,” Judd said. "He's a dope-smoking pedophile preacher." Judd says Chaneyfield is HIV positive and did not tell the teen before having unprotected sex with him. “He’s dangerous,” Sheriff Judd said. “We believe he’s a super spreader.” The sheriff says investigators also spoke with a 26-year-old who says he had sexual contact with Chaneyfield and later learned he was HIV positive. Chaneyfield previously worked for Polk County Public Schools, including at Crystal Lake Middle School, from 2012 to 2024. Investigators believe there could be more victims. “I would be shocked if there weren’t other children victims out there,” Judd said. Chaneyfield faces charges including lewd battery on a child, traveling to meet a minor, computer-related charges, and failing to disclose his HIV status.
