A Filipina tourist needs surgery after she was hit by a train in Taiwan, the Manila Economic Cultural Office (MECO) said Tuesday.
In a statement, MECO chairperson Cheloy Garafil said the unnamed Filipina was hit by a train along Shifen Sky Lantern Old Street, a popular destination that features local food, souvenir shops and the rail line.
The woman was traveling alone but eventually joined a tour during this portion of her trip, the MECO head said.
According to a 24 Oras report Wednesday, CCTV footage of the incident showed the Filipina standing close to the train tracks, taking what appeared to be a selfie photo and raising her left arm when the incoming train struck her.
Authorities said the woman was immediately rushed to the hospital after she sustained multiple injuries.
The Filipina is in stable condition, but will require surgery to address injuries to her head, chest and hips.»
