Las Vegas (KSNV) — A substitute teacher caught on video fighting a student at Valley High School is released from custody on Friday during a court hearing.
27-year-old Re'Kwon Smith is facing several charges, including assault on a school pupil.
Hearing Master Daniel Westmeyer ordered Smith's release during his first court appearance Friday afternoon. Attorney Tyler Smith with the Clark County District Attorney's Office said Smith has no criminal history and no indication that he is a flight risk. He also told the court that Smith's pretrial risk assessment was negative one. The assessment determines how likely the defendant may reoffend. Anything scored between 0-4 is low.
"This seems to be a very unique situation," Smith said.
Smith's release came with several conditions, including staying out of trouble (no new arrests or citations), no contact with the named victims in the case, and he must stay away from Valley High School.
