The shop's CCTV footage revealed the man carefully cut through the roof and wooden ceiling before having a clear path into the establishment. However, the man suddenly slipped and landed head-first on the floor but did not die immediately from the fall. The footage captured him coughing heavily for around ten minutes before he passed on at around 11:40pm. Kituo alerted the police at Mwingi Police Station, where the body of the unidentified man was taken to Mwingi Level 4 Hospital mortuary ahead of an autopsy examination.
