The Okaloosa County Sheriff's office in Florida said one of its deputies mistook the sound of an acorn hitting the roof of his police vehicle for the sound of gunfire. The deputy then pulled his weapon and fired at the car while a person was handcuffed inside.
He said he was “scared to death,” and that he leaned over and played dead “to prevent getting shot in the head.”
“Mentally, I’m not OK,” he said. “I haven’t been the same since and I don’t think this feeling I have will ever change.”
