«He's more concerned with looking like a tough guy than paying attention to the many possible factors of the battle field. He should put his head on a swivel and move in a manner that helps reduce possible blind spots by moving to scan and feel out the environment to search for the most advantageous angle of attack. He had tunnel vision and marched in a straight line through an environment with multiple threats maneuvering for their own positions. Approaching the opponent in a strait line will give you one view of the target area but move in an arch and you see the target from multiple angles and possible attack options become available. It also eliminates the obvious blind spot that someone has when moving in a straight line because as you move in an arch you're able to scan the entire 360° around you as you make your approach. You're forcing them to move to adjust to your changing angle of approach so you're more likely to draw them out helping you separate single combatants from their group and you're more likely to evade detection from your enemies as well. When I fight multiple opponents I circle and move around the enemies so I can pick them off one at a time without being surrounded and having to many blind spots and opponents. If you must move through the center of the enemies there are ways to dominate but sometimes it doesn't work and you end up in real trouble. I've experienced both. He had an audience so he was trying to look cool rather than move strategically. Read the environment the best you can especially when outnumbered. I don't presume to be the most knowledgeable so take it as you will but know this, I've face multiple opponents more times than I can easily count in hand to hand Street fights and had much more success than failures.
