«The fuck does he have his hands up for? They’re literally 30 feet away, there’s a crashed helicopter and you’re wearing white in a sea of green.»

«Looks like something broke on the tail rotor causing the heli to loose control.

The static helicopter has its main gearbox and blades removed, the guy atop that helicopter appears to be trying to attach a cable to the, what was at the time, flying helicopter I assume to lift it from its position hillside position.

Never easy lifting a helicopter with another helicopter. Reminded me of back in 2012, a US MH53 was attempting to lift a downed Royal Air Force of Oman NH90 in Oman. The MH53 with the NH90 attached crashed killing 2 of the 5 aboard the MH53. At the time the accident was believed to have been caused by the NH90 swinging underneath the MH53 making the MH53 difficult to handle, for some reason the MH53 crew never cut the cable to drop the NH90 which would have allowed them to regain control of the MH53.

The Omani Government didn't want the video of the accident to get out, but it was leaked on Youtube, but has since been removed. Fortunately it is still available on the Waybackwhen machine if you search YouTube url with v=b03T0xMDU9c on the end, and look for archive 1 Feb 2013.

«@Luzza Hope your not serious...?!? No helicopter have enough lift to lift another helicopter. Look at the video and see where they are. They are high up in the mountain where the air is thin (so not enough lift for helicopter) and looks to be very windy. Both conditions are VERY BAD for helicopters. Reason why you rarely see helicopter rescues at tall mountain tops.»

«@SmartOP That was a wind gust. They were right on the edge of a slope or cliff face. Small gust of wind hitting the rotor from under neath is enough to destabilize the rotor balance.»
