This is the shocking moment a tipper tuck reversed and rammed into a police car at speed before taking off after officers stopped it on a busy south London street.

Met Police said the yellow and black Ford Transit truck caused extensive damage and injured two officers.

The force said it was making a routine traffic stop on Friday in a marked police car and indicated for an erratic driver of a damaged truck to halt at Landor Road in Stockwell.

Instead of stopping at around 10.50am, the truck reversed at speed into the bonnet of the police car which hospitalised one of the officers.

The video, filmed near Brixton, begins with the truck in the left corner of the frame and the police car parked up.

The truck then starts to reverse fast into the police car with the impact seen before becoming slightly obscured.

A woman can also be seen with two children watching the truck cause damage to the police car.

The yellow and black waste disposal truck can then be seen speeding away close to Landor Road, Stockwell passed St Andrews Church and down Stockwell Green.

After the incident, the Met Police said one officer required hospital treatment for injuries to his head and hand but has since been discharged.

A second officer was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

Twitter account Brit Cop said the driver is 'apart from being a little sore, in good spirits'.

A search of the area was carried out following the crash but the truck could not be located.

The Met Police have launched an investigation and are trying to track it down and identify those involved.

The truck is yellow and black in colour, with a damaged mirror on one side.

The registration is believed to be FA04 UZW although the F is missing from the rear number plate.
