This is the full story of what happened when I was attacked while filming my latest mix. what i expected to be a chill mix, turned into something much more intense and sinister. i was mid-way through filming and a lady approached from the beach. my audio was already very quiet but when i saw her i turned it completely off. keep in mind, she had to have heard my music because she approached me (unless she just saw me and wanted to cause trouble). so i'm guessing that it was audible from where she was. still, as soon as i saw her, i turned it completely off. she then demanded that i come and speak to her. i was in the middle of filming, and i could still hear my mix in my headphones, so i was going to finish what i was doing. that was not enough for her, so she stormed away, saying she would call the cops. i was ok with this, as i'd prefer the police come and sort it out. there's absolutely no reason to use violence in a situation like this. after finishing my mix, i packed my stuff and headed for the single exit of the area. carrying 30kg of gear on my back, my dj mixer in one hand, and my 360 camerain the other, i began documenting what had happened. little did i know that she would appear again, corner me next to the rocks and start her own unprovoked confrontation. she splashed hot coffee on me, deployed a weapon and physically assaulted me. as i spun around confused, she went to pick up a rock. at that point, she tripped on another rock and i sprinted away. leaving the scene completely rattled, i began to process what had happened. what i do here with my mixes is completely peaceful, and as i'm doing this often in public places, i want to be respectful to those around. anytime someone asks me to turn it off (which has only happened once, 3 years ago), i will do so with full respect. in this case, that was not enough for her.. she had to lash out. regardless, you'll see what happened, and what happened afterwards. later that day, i went on a long hike to calm down. i met some fantastic people from the area, showed them the footage and got their opinion. they were all completely shocked and assured me that this was not normal at all. later that afternoon, i found a secluded spot on the cliffs to film another mix. you'll find that mix on my channel as well. it comes with a sombre tone, as i wanted to isolate myself to just be alone with the music for the sunset.later i decide to go to the police, and you'll learn all about that in my vlog. i just want to say, what we're building here is not about violence, prejudice or ego. i see music as the ultimate form of connection. it transcends languages, time and all the people in the world. i have no idea what this person was experiencing that day but i know that what we're doing here with phikey is touching many more people in a massively positive way. after this experience, it hardened my fortitude more than ever to continue creating these experiences and having a positive impact on those it reaches.
