A Vietnamese driver dislocated his ankle jumping from his truck to rescue a 2-year-old girl who had toddled alone onto National Highway 1, scooping her up in the middle of a four-lane stretch moments before a passing car had to swerve sharply to avoid hitting them both. Ly Van To, 31, was driving a delivery truck south from Quang Tri back to his home in Da Nang in central Vietnam at around 3:35 p.m. on April 4 when he spotted the child on the shoulder of Highway 1 at kilometer 860, a stretch that runs through Phu Loc Commune on the outskirts of Hue. The girl suddenly stepped into the traffic lane and began walking across the road, which carries four lanes at speeds of up to 90 kph. Officer Pulls Woman from Burning Car after Violent Carjacking

A violent carjacking turned into a fiery crash with a 1-year-old still inside the stolen vehicle.

Additionally, a woman is recovering today because of one officer’s immediate, life-saving action.

On Sunday evening (February 8, 2026),District 4 Patrol officers responded to every parent’s worst nightmare: a woman had been forcefully carjacked on 103rd Street, and the suspect drove away with her 1-year-old still in the back seat.

Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle just a few streets away. As they attempted to stop the suspect, he crashed into another vehicle causing a fiery wreck that left an innocent driver trapped inside a burning car.

Officer Almin Residovic did not hesitate.

He ran toward the flames and found the driver still inside. Her hair was on fire. Without hesitation, Officer Residovic pulled her from the burning vehicle, rescuing her from what could have been a deadly situation, and immediately began providing emergency medical aid until additional help arrived.

At the same time, another officer safely removed the 1-year-old from the stolen vehicle, unharmed. A 14-year-old escaped from the burning car before the officers arrived.

Officers arrested the suspect, 34-year-old Richard Younger, at the crash scene. He is facing multiple felony charges, including:

• Carjacking

• Leaving the Scene of a Crash without Rendering Aid

• Aggravated Fleeing from Law Enforcement after a Crash

• False Imprisonment of a Child Under 13 Years of Age

We are incredibly proud of Officer Residovic’s courage and the swift, coordinated response of all the officers involved.

After speaking with the woman on the phone this afternoon, she tells us she is incredibly grateful to be alive and for the quick actions taken by Officer Residovic. The woman continues to recover.
