Canon 6
Let not a bishop, presbyter, or deacon, undertake worldly business; otherwise let him be deposed.
Canon 81
We have said that a bishop or presbyter must not give himself to the management of public affairs, but devote himself to ecclesiastical business. Let him then be persuaded to do so, or let him be deposed, for no man can serve two masters, according to the Lord's declaration.
Canon 64
If any clergyman or layman shall enter into a synagogue of Jews or heretics to pray, let the former be deposed and let the latter be excommunicated.
Canon 70
If any bishop, presbyter, or deacon, or any one of the list of clergy, keeps fast or festival with the Jews, or receives from them any of the gifts of their feasts, as unleavened bread, any such things, let him be deposed. If he be a layman, let him be excommunicated.
???? Synod of Laodicea
Canon 29
Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honouring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema from Christ.
???? Council in Trullo (Quinisext Council) —
Canon 11
Let no one in the priestly order nor any layman eat the unleavened bread of the Jews, nor have any familiar intercourse with them, nor summon them in illness, nor receive medicines from them, nor bathe with them; but if anyone shall take in hand to do so, if he is a cleric, let him be deposed, but if a layman let him be cut off.
The Canons of the Blessed Peter, Archbishop of Alexandria, as They are Given in His Sermon on Penitence
Excerpts from Canon 10
“They have left destitute the flock of the Lord, and brought blame upon themselves.”
“To neglect the teaching of the people, and to prefer their own advantage, this did not one of the apostles.”
“Those who have fallen can no longer discharge their sacred ministry.”
“They seek for that which they have left, when in this present time they can be useful to the brethren.”
“They have acted with ostentation, and brought reproach upon themselves.”
“Let them cease from vainglory; for communion is sufficient for them.”
“He has forsaken the Lord’s flock, and, not having with constancy endured, has brought reproach upon himself.”
“They despise the instruction of the people, and prefer their own advantage.”
“They ask for the sacred ministry from which they have voluntarily fallen.”
“It is not lawful for them any longer to discharge their sacred functions.”
“He has deserted the flock, and as far as in him lies, has given it over to the wolf.”
“He refuses that which brings labour, but embraces that which gains honour and glory.”
“He who has deserted the people shall deservedly be punished with greater severity.”
