A woman was hurt in what Metro Nashville Police are calling an apparent road rage shooting outside of a downtown courthouse on Monday morning.
The shooting occurred at about 8:40 a.m. in the “cutout driveway” outside the Justice A A. Birch Building on 2nd Avenue North. The Birch Building houses the Davidson County criminal and civil courtrooms and clerk’s offices.
A spokesperson for MNPD reported that a white sedan stopped in front of the building when a gray Dodge Durango SUV pulled up behind it.
“The driver of the Dodge began honking the horn and yelled for the driver of the white sedan to move on,” the MNPD press release said.
The 50-year-old passenger of the white sedan got out of the car and walked over to the SUV, and “at that point, shots were fired.” Then the SUV quickly drove away.
Immediately after the shooting, detectives said they were searching for the SUV. Police shared an update Monday evening saying detectives found the Durango at a Goodlettsville apartment complex, according to a press release. It was impounded.
The injured woman left her vehicle and entered the Birch courthouse building to get help. She was treated by officers and medical personnel inside the building until she was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, and she was released the same day. Police said the woman was booked on Monday after her release from the hospital on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation. She was at the courthouse Monday to “appear as a defendant in a domestic assault case,” per MNPD.
Police have not announced a description of the SUV driver or their arrest.

«Probably should have tagged the car to see if someone gets it, then they would want to make their problem someone else's problem and dime on them.»
