Serial Shoplifter Caught and Charged in Atlanta

On October 1st, 2025, at approximately 3:37PM, officers responded to the Nike store located at 675 Ponce De Leon Avenue NE in reference to a shoplifter. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the reporting party who stated that an unidentified male had entered the store and stole a number of items and placed them into a large garbage bag before fleeing from the location. A witness was able to provide a tag number to the suspect's vehicle which was located a short time later with the assistance of the Auto Crimes Enforcement Unit (ACE) and the Aviation Unit (Phoenix). Officers were able to follow the shoplifter and his getaway driver inside of a convenience store where they were apprehended without further incident.
The shoplifter was identified as 22-year-old Javonte Avery and his getaway driver was identified as 23-year-old Michael Davis. Both men were charged with Felony Shoplifting and were transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing. Additionally, Mr. Avery had an active warrant out of the Fulton County Sheriff's Office and 18 additional warrants out of the Atlanta Police Department related to shoplifting. Mr. Davis had 6 active warrants out of the Chattooga County Sheriff's Office.
In total, the suspects stole just over $5,000 worth of merchandise. Larceny Unit investigators were able to recover and return all of the stolen items back to the Nike store. All arrests and photos are public information. An arrest does not mean that the individual has been or will be convicted of the crime.
