The police chief of Cordova has resigned following an internal investigation into alleged sexual harassment involving an 18-year-old dispatcher, city officials confirmed.
Chief Jason Hare, who had served just four months in the position, stepped down on Monday. Mayor Jeremy Pate said the matter is being handled as an administrative investigation, not a criminal one.
“We take all reports of employee misconduct seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly,” Pate said in a public statement.
According to city officials, the allegations stem from department surveillance footage recorded on August 26, 2025, showing Hare approaching the dispatcher at her workstation. In the video, he appears to touch her hair, lean over her, and at one point place his hands around her neck in what looks like a “playful” gesture. The footage does not include audio.
Another employee who viewed the footage later alerted supervisors after checking on the dispatcher’s well-being. Family members said the young woman was too afraid to report the incident herself because it was her first job and involved the department’s top official.
No criminal charges have been filed, but the investigation remains ongoing.
