A fatal accident occurred on the morning of October 5 on Dzerzhinsky Street. At 7:10 a.m., the 24-year-old driver of a Toyota Mark II failed to yield to a pedestrian crossing the road at an uncontrolled crosswalk and struck him.
The pedestrian died at the scene. His identity is being established.
According to the Sakhalin Region State Traffic Inspectorate, the driver refused a medical examination. Over the past two years, he had repeatedly violated traffic rules, receiving 18 administrative fines.
