«Not going to complain about every child getting a $1k investment account at birth too?

What other bill, in history, in every nation on the planet, have the working class ever gotten more?

I'll wait...

«@ScreaminMime As of July 2025, it's not a universal program that every US baby born now will automatically get $1,000 at birth. However, there is significant momentum and recent legislative movement around a proposal often dubbed "Trump Accounts" or "baby bonds."
Here's a breakdown:
* The "Trump Accounts" Proposal: A recent proposal, which has passed the House and is making its way through the Senate, aims to establish government-funded investment accounts for new American babies. This proposal would initially deposit $1,000 into a tax-deferred investment account for each eligible child. The accounts would be available for children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, who are U.S. citizens and whose parents have Social Security numbers (with some recent discussion about potentially including children of undocumented immigrants).
* Purpose: The idea behind these "baby bonds" or "Trump Accounts" is to give children a financial head start, introduce them to investing, and help build wealth, particularly for those who might face economic disadvantages. The money would generally be accessible for specific purposes (like higher education or starting a business) when the child reaches adulthood.
* Current Status: While the proposal has passed the House, it still faces hurdles in the Senate. So, it's not a done deal that every baby born now will receive this.
* Existing Programs: There are other federal and state programs that provide financial assistance to families with children, such as:
* Child Tax Credit: This federal tax credit helps families with qualifying children.
* SNAP (food stamps) and WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children): These programs provide food assistance.
* TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families): This program provides time-limited cash assistance to eligible low-income families.
* State-level Baby Bonds: Some states and localities, like Connecticut and Washington D.C., have already implemented their own "baby bond" programs.
In summary, while a significant federal "baby bond" type program is under consideration that would give $1,000 to eligible newborns, it's not yet a universal guarantee for every US baby born right now.
Yes, the "Trump Accounts" or "baby bonds" proposal was included in the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (OBBBA), which President Trump signed into law on July 4, 2025.
Reports from the White House and news outlets confirm that the OBBBA includes provisions for "savings accounts for newborns" or "Trump Accounts," allowing parents to create tax-deferred accounts for the benefit of their children with an initial $1,000 deposit. These specific provisions are set to expire in 2028.

It's not law, and the provisions expire in 3 years. Well two and a half. What else?
