«If that sound is coming from the aircraft that’s definitely the Ram Air Turbine, because that’s exactly what they sound like. The RAT is deployed automatically when both engines are lost.

It is odd that you can’t see flap configuration… but I dunno if that’s just the grainy videos. There’s no way the aircraft would allow the pilot to takeoff without the flaps set, it would fire alarms at them constantly. That said, a dual engine failure is just bizarre…

No engine thrust sounds does seem to indicate engine failure though. If it was lack of flap config you’d hear the engines screaming, it’s just silent… apart from what sounds like the RAT

«No takeoff, flaps configuration for takeoff resulting in lost of lift and slowly lost altitude due to not enough airspeed before the flaps was retracted or never deployed for take off.»

«From the video, that 787 doesn't look like it has the flaps on takeoff. Cannot tell with slats.»

«@Oracle8 When Did You Qualify On The 787 ? Stupid Cunt !»

30 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@Stemroach I don't, you dumbshit stupid moron. But I have flown in smaller planes and flown in various simulators. You dumbshit moron.»

6 +1 E_Blackadder 4 weeks ago

«@Oracle8 Yep, looks like no flaps and the gear should be up/going up by then. Raised flaps, not gear.»

26 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@E_Blackadder Think about this logically. Crash site is only 1 miles from from airport runway. Plane is traveling near 200 knots. That's ONLY 30 seconds in flight from runway to crash site. Do you really believe the pilots was thinking about raising the landing gear after realizing that they are having issues? That's probably the last thing on their mind.»

7 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@Oracle8 I meant ONLY 18 seconds in flight from runway to crash site.»

27 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@Oracle8 Substract 10 seconds from 18 seconds in flight time if gear up after rotate. No way. That plane took off without flaps.»

4 +1 WessyD 4 weeks ago

«@Oracle8 A large number of alarms start blarring if they start the T/O without flaps set.»

3 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@WessyD You're right. TCWS will sound alarm if flaps are not set. It is also possible the flaps were set incorrectly for overall weight and length of runway. And rotation speed might be also incorrectly set. Did they incorrectly calculated overall weight? One thing seems very clear from the other video is that they were struggling to lift off during takeoff. Or maybe engine issues?»

49 +1 WessyD 4 weeks ago

«Looks like they mistakenly retracted the flaps instead of the landing gear after take off and the plane stalled.»

Substract 10 seconds from 18 seconds from in flight time if gear up after rotate. No way. That plane took off without flaps. Or had mechanical problems or/and incorrect calculation of weight in conjunction with rotate speed, etc...»

«@WessyD Looks more like hydraulics were out.»

15 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@Numiah I highly doubt that. 787 has three hydraulics systems. If all hydraulic systems fail, flaps and landing gear are operated by secondary electric system.»

35 +1 Oracle8 4 weeks ago

«@WessyD I don't know how the pilots could make that kind of a mistake like that but anything is possible since both controls are located in the center console but opposite to each other. For flaps, you do need to pull up and move, I believe on 787. And it is controlled by the pilot who is not flying the plane (pilot that does not have control of the flight stick).»

I always feel a hurt for those in a commercial airplane crash. RIP, all of them....
