Jennifer Guilbeault, 23, pepper-sprayed Uber driver Shohel Mahmud, a Muslim, in his car near 65th Street and Lexington Avenue, Manhattan.
Video footage shows Guilbeault, appearing drunk, lunging from the back seat to spray Mahmud, restrain his arm, and spray him again after he tried to stop the car from rolling.
Mahmud escaped through the driver’s door; Guilbeault’s friend shouted in shock, and Mahmud believed Guilbeault said, “He’s brown,” though no hate crime was proven.
Guilbeault pleaded guilty to aggravated harassment on April 23, 2025, taking a plea deal for community service, therapy, and alcohol treatment to avoid prison and a felony record.
Mahmud, a Queens resident, forgave her, citing his faith.
