Nearly two dozen Army Rangers have been suspended after turning a pirate festival into a panic zone.
18 soldiers from the 6th Ranger Training Battalion reportedly fired rounds of blanks at a packed Crab Island during Destin’s Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival - after the approved mock battle ended.
Cue chaos, confusion, terrified beachgoers, and a flurry of 911 calls.
The shots were not part of the city-approved festival plan. Officials stressed they greenlit a single, controlled event - not a rogue, unsanctioned beach blitz with automatic weapons.
A local charter captain called it “unacceptable,” especially in a country plagued by real mass shootings.
The Army has pulled the soldiers from training duties and barred them from instructing recruits in the swamp phase of Ranger School while it investigates.
Fort Benning says it’s taking the matter seriously and promises accountability.
