Hidden in the hills of West Virginia lives the Whittaker family — often called America's most inbred family.
It began generations ago with identical twin brothers, Henry and John Whittaker. Their children married each other, and the cycle of inbreeding continued, leading to serious genetic issues in later generations.
Many descendants are severely impaired. Ray Whittaker, one of the most well-known, cannot speak — only grunts and barks. His behavior is believed to stem from deep genetic damage, possibly non-verbal autism, though no diagnosis has been confirmed.
