video shows a Kenmore Air seaplane going down in the San Juan Islands yesterday evening. It was on a regular run from Seattle to Eastsound and ended up in the water near Sucia Island after hitting rough weather, gusty winds and lightning. All 11 people onboard got out safely. Rescuers from the Coast Guard, local teams, and even Canada pulled them out. A few went to the hospital just to be checked, but everyone’s accounted for.

South Hill, WA - A 24-year-old man is in custody after allegedly walking into a South Hill pharmacy wielding a large sword and then walking through a crowded shopping area, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The incident happened on the evening of July 3 near 176th Street and Meridian in Puyallup’s South Hill area, as many families were out preparing for Fourth of July celebrations. Pierce County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Carly Cappetto said deputies were called after a known shoplifting suspect entered a local pharmacy. “He had entered the store with a very large katana sword and was using it to essentially threaten and intimidate customers and employees,” Cappetto said. Employees recognized the man from past incidents and believed he was going to steal from the store. When they verbally asked him to leave, the situation escalated. “He did begin to intimidate and threaten employees with the sword, and then he took off on foot,” Cappetto said. The suspect fled the pharmacy and walked toward a nearby Fred Meyer across 176th, still armed with the sword. It was about 7:30 p.m., and the parking lot was filled with shoppers, including women and children. The sheriff’s office deployed Pierce One, its air support unit, which quickly located the suspect and provided real-time updates as he moved through the busy parking lot. “They were able to get eyes on him and give us real-time information on his exact location as he walked through that busy parking lot, armed with a sword,” Cappetto said. “You could tell he was very escalated and agitated, and that people were threatened by him.” From the air, the man could be seen swinging the sword and carrying it at his side as he walked. When deputies approached to arrest him for armed robbery and intimidation with a weapon, the suspect dropped the sword and ran, prompting a short foot chase. A Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper and two Pierce County deputies pursued him before deploying a Taser and taking him to the ground. He was evaluated by fire personnel for minor scratches and the effects of the Taser, then cleared and booked into the Pierce County Jail for: armed robbery, intimidation with a weapon, and resisting arrest. No customers, employees, deputies, or troopers were injured.

She slipped on the wet grass, twisted her leg badly, and collapsed screaming in pain. Her accomplice, Brian Devere (in a Seahawks jersey), carried her to the car, then returned for the dropped packages. Security footage captured it all. The pair was later arrested, with Treat pleading guilty and receiving 58 days in jail plus restitution. Karma proved far more expensive than the theft.

D.C. police fatally shoot man on Metro bus after he killed a woman

Officers fatally shot a man onboard a Metrobus on Tuesday morning, blocks away from where he allegedly shot and killed a woman in Northwest D.C., interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll said. The man, 44-year-old Shawn Williams, is believed to have shot the woman, 44-year-old Melissa Wallace-Pulliam, in the 3600 block of Wisconsin Avenue, NW, just after 7 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Carroll said the woman was involved in a “prior domestic relationship” with the suspect. Following the shooting, police said the suspect boarded a northbound Metrobus on Porter Street, Northwest. Several people witnessed the shooting and told police what the suspect looked like, Carroll said, as well as which bus he was on. D.C. police officers followed that bus and pulled it over a few blocks down the road, at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue, NW, and Upton Street, NW, moments later, Carroll said. Officers were evacuating passengers when they confronted the suspect and he reportedly reached into his bag and pulled a gun out. Carroll said officers repeatedly told him to stop reaching into his bag, but opened fire when he pointed the gun in their direction. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. A handful of riders were still on the bus when the male suspect was shot and killed. He had been arrested in D.C. before, including for domestic-related incidents between the suspect and the woman, according to the interim police chief. Carroll said the suspect had a “prior domestic relationship” with the woman, but exactly how the two knew each other was not immediately clear.

NORTH OMAK — A 62-year-old woman was booked into the Colville Tribes Corrections Facility last week after allegedly leading officers on a slow police chase in the North Omak area, according to the Colville Tribes jail log. The jail log identifies the woman as Cathy Covington. She was booked at 4:18 a.m. on May 29 on allegations of abduction, attempting to elude, resisting arrest and attempted homicide of a police officer. The jail log states Covington led officers on a slow police chase in the North Omak area before she was taken into custody. Additional details about what led to the pursuit, the alleged abduction, or the circumstances surrounding the attempted homicide allegation were not included in the jail log. It was not immediately clear from the log which law enforcement agency initiated the pursuit or whether any officers or civilians were injured. The allegations listed in the jail log are accusations. Covington has not been convicted of the listed offenses.

Omak police detain man after multiple alleged stabbings, attempted carjackings

Omak, WA - The Omak Police Department (OPD) reported officers arrested a man after a stabbing and two attempted vehicle takeovers near Burger King along Riverside Drive in Omak. OPD dispatch received the call at about 1:52 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026. Investigators said 27-year-old Dwight Belgarde slashed a 61-year-old man who was walking to Burger King. The victim did not know Belgarde and had no contact with him before the attack. The man suffered a deep cut about five inches long from below the ear to the chin, the release said. The injured man ran to Burger King, where employees and patrons gave first aid and called 911. Police said Officer Paul Ebreo arrived at 1:55 p.m. and saw Belgarde trying to stab or take a vehicle from a 21-year-old man. Ebreo ordered him to drop the knife and tried to detain him. Belgarde dropped the knife, then got up and moved toward Ebreo. Police said Ebreo used his Taser twice without immediate effect and continued chasing him through heavy traffic. Belgarde then entered another running vehicle at Arby’s that was occupied by a 27-year-old woman who was preparing to leave. According to police, the driver moved to the passenger side and removed the keys before Ebreo pulled Belgarde from the vehicle and detained him at 1:56 p.m.

Man Sues Police Over Alleged Excessive Force During Arrest

Renton, WA - A Renton man has filed a lawsuit against the City of Renton and two officers, alleging that in 2024, he was physically and emotionally injured, and that body cam footage was also withheld from him. On Feb. 25, Darren Beeks filed a complaint for damages against the City of Renton and two Renton Police Department officers, alleging excessive force, unlawful arrest, First Amendment violations and Public Records Act violations. These allegations stem from an April 13, 2024, incident in the 2200 block of Maple Valley Highway in Renton, where Beeks heard a crash outside his home, went to help and took pictures at the scene before officers took him to the ground, arresting him, alleging obstruction of justice. According to body cam footage of the incident, provided by Beeks’ attorney, before the arrest, Beeks and officers had a verbal dispute over his refusal to leave the crash scene, and officers stated that he was in an active crime scene and that they would arrest him for obstruction. Body cam footage then depicts Beeks saying he’s going to take pictures before he begins walking between two officers. Multiple officers then begin to arrest Beeks, taking him to the ground. According to the police report of the incident, when officers took Beeks to the ground, he continued screaming and attempting to resist by pulling his arms away. Officers then searched Beeks and found a pistol in his back pocket, according to the police report. According to the complaint, when officers arrested Beeks, four officers converged on him, throwing him to the ground and fracturing his ribs, and he now has ongoing damage to his wrist. The complaint states that the incident continues to impact Beeks’ life, causing him pain, mental distress and interfering with his ability to work. Beeks was taken to SCORE jail and spent two days there before a judge ordered his release. The Renton City Attorney then charged Beeks with obstruction of justice. According to the complaint, following his charge, Beeks’ attorney requested documents from the Renton Police Department, including body cam footage of the incident. Despite officers stating in paperwork that there was body cam footage, it was not contained in the records requests, the complaint states. The complaint states that, after losing hope that a video of the incident existed and fearing the impact that further prosecution could have on his life, Beeks entered an Alford plea. According to the Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute, an Alford plea is a formal admission of guilt to charges while the defendant simultaneously maintains their innocence. According to Beeks’ attorney, Darcy Covert of Stritmatter Law, although the body cam footage of the incident was not initially released, it was released 13 days after Beeks entered an Alford plea. Covert stated that if that footage had been released before his plea, there’s a good chance the outcome of his case would have been different.

Police say the assaults took place in a smaller room as well as a private area in the main classroom.

When police searched the phone of the teacher, Mahayla Benavides, 32, they allegedly found videos she took of herself r*ping the student.

The Spokane, Washington, fourth grader says the assaults happened five times a day on some occasions.

Benavides instructed him not to tell anyone about the assaults or else she would lose her job.

At one point, the boy asked if she would ever get him any gifts, and she replied by saying she would get him brownies.

Her bond was set at $500,000. She was charged with child r*pe and child m*lestation.

K9 Asher takes down high-speed suspect after 96 mph chase in Washington

Thurston County, WA - On February 16th K9 Asher and his handler attempted to stop a vehicle on Rich Rd after capturing the driver on radar traveling 96mph in a 35mph zone. The driver refused to pull over, and a pursuit was initiated throughout the east Olympia area. The driver eventually pulled into a known drug compound and attempted to flee on foot. K9 Asher was sent on a direct take, successfully capturing the suspect. The K9 kept the suspect apprehended until a backup unit could apply handcuffs and ensure there were no weapons under the suspect where his hands were bunched up. The K9 was inadvertently kicked by the suspect, at which point the dog reengaged before being pulled off the bite as the suspect was detained. The driver showed signs of impairment, and there was a considerable amount of drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. A search warrant was authorized to seize the drug paraphernalia from the car and obtain two vials of blood from the suspect to be sent to the crime lab for testing. The suspect was treated at the hospital and booked into TCSO jail for attempting to elude, DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia. No charges were filed for harming a police dog, as it was not believed that the suspect intentionally intended to kick K9 Asher. Impaired drivers traveling nearly triple the speed limit are an imminent threat to the safety of our community, great work by our deputies to intervene before this driver killed someone.
