A man is in custody after police say he shot a woman outside the Wilson County Courthouse and then traded gunfire with police — an incident officials believe was in retaliation for a fatal shooting last month. Abdul Karim Mustafa, 21, of Wilson, faces four charges, including attempted first-degree murder and going armed to terror of the public after police said he approached a 19-year-old woman who was entering the courthouse and shot her several times before fleeing. Police believe the incident was connected to a shooting from several weeks ago that killed a 16-year-old, according to Wilson County Sheriff Calvin L. A person died in a Wednesday afternoon crash on the Indianapolis south side, police say. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was called just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of West Sumner Avenue and Harding Street. That’s in an area with industries and homes about a mile north of the I-465 interchange. Witness said the crash appears to have involved a motorcycle and a Cadillac Escalade SUV. The roads were closed in the area of the crash. Police were continuing to investigate the crash, but IMPD was unable to provide any additional details yet, said an IMPD media notification.

Azusa, CA - A man armed with a knife was shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon after authorities say he charged toward a deputy during a confrontation in the Azusa area. The deputy-involved shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of North Orangecrest Avenue in an unincorporated area near Azusa, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said deputies from the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of an attempted suicide call where a man was harming himself with a knife. When deputies arrived, the man allegedly exited a side gate of the residence while armed and refused repeated commands to surrender the weapon, investigators said. The man then allegedly charged toward the nearest deputy, who was standing near a patrol vehicle, prompting the deputy to open fire. Deputies and firefighters rendered aid at the scene before the man was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, authorities said. Investigators recovered a knife with an approximately 3-inch blade at the scene. No deputies were injured in the incident.
