On Friday, EPPD took to social media to share the video of the close call, describing that the motorcycle officer had just pulled over a driver when a distracted driver slammed into the back of the stopped car-- pushing the car about 500 feet forward down the shoulder and miraculously missing the officer. According to the post, the crash happened on I-10 on July 25. And while the officer, as well as the driver of the stopped car, suffered injuries, EPPD said they were non-life-threatening. The distracted driver was cited for "failure to control speed causing a collision

White Woman Hurls N-Word at Black Men, Calls 911… Then Ends Up in Handcuffs

Texas

Fort Worth police shot at a woman after a 911 call of a woman shooting into trees

Fort Worth, TX - Fort Worth police have released body camera video after an officer fired a shot at a woman last week. No one was injured in the July 15 incident near Everman Parkway and Oak Grove Road. Fort Worth police were responding to calls about a woman firing a gun but did not find a gun on the woman they shot at. Body camera footage also captures one officer asking another, "Why'd you shoot?" The woman was not injured but has been charged with multiple alleged crimes. Body camera footage shows a Fort Worth police officer shooting at, and arresting, 34-year-old Leandra Johnson after she appears to run away from officers investigating reports that she had fired a gun in her neighborhood on July 15. Before officers arrived at Belshire Court, 911 dispatch heard at least one gunshot. Multiple callers reported a woman shooting into trees and provided a description of the suspect. "We're in a residential lot, and she just shot at our front tree, and now she's walking down toward our neighbor's house," one caller told dispatch. "She's just walking around smiling, and we thought we heard fireworks from our backyard, but evidently there were two gunshots previously to this," another caller said. Arriving officers identified the suspect, but when they got out of their marked patrol vehicle and told her to stop, she ran away. During the encounter, one officer can be heard asking another officer, "Why'd you shoot?" Johnson was not hit by the officer's gunfire. In a media release, Fort Worth police said, "One officer observed the female reaching inside the purse she was holding. Fearing that the female may be reaching for the weapon, one officer fired his gun." It is unclear whether the department believes protocol was followed. Police did not find a gun on Johnson, but they did recover an empty gun box matching the description of the reported firearm and ammunition matching a spent shell casing recovered outside. Police also said several people came in and out of the home after the gunfire before the scene could be secured.

Unarmed teen fatally shot by Austin officers in suspected 'suicide by police'

AUSTIN, Texas — A 17-year-old fatally shot by police officers in northeast Austin early Friday morning may have been trying to commit suicide by police, according to the department. Austin 911 received a call at 3:51 a.m. reporting that a young person was in a parking lot in the 10100 block of Baden Lane with what appeared to be a gun in his waistband. The caller said the person kept "messing with his waistband" and appeared to be brandishing the weapon, though the caller said he wasn't certain what he had seen. Officers arrived within two minutes and found a person matching that description on a playground near a community park in the same block, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said. Officers gave the teen verbal commands to keep his hands up and asked if he was okay. Body camera footage released by police shows officers repeatedly telling the teen to keep his hands up before he lifted his shirt and reached toward his waistband. At 4:02 a.m., Officers Jake Pitcher, Alexis Cruz and Avery Zucchi opened fire, according to APD. Officers secured the scene and began performing medical aid, and Austin-Travis County EMS continued life-saving efforts after arriving, but the teen was pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m. No firearm was found. Investigators later determined that a water bottle had been in his waistband, Davis said. Police also determined that the original 911 call had come from the teen's own phone and that he was the one who had made it, leading investigators to believe the incident was "potentially a suicide by police."

Starbucks Karen Chokes Customer and Slaps Employee in El Paso

Woman became impatient while awaiting her order at Starbucks and began to berate the employees. Southlake Police Department Cpl. Joshua Swisher said he was responding to a traffic stop on June 7, along State Highway 114, when he received a call about a vehicle with heavy smoke pouring from it. "I had a vehicle pulled over on the shoulder, and almost simultaneously, dispatch alerted me to a smoke investigation, possible vehicle fire," Swisher told ABC News. "I was just thinking, 'I gotta get to that vehicle, get it stopped and pulled over, and see if I can't get that driver out of the vehicle before it goes up in flames.'" The smoking vehicle had passed by Swisher on the highway, according to dashcam footage shared by the Southlake Police Department in a Facebook post. Swisher began following the vehicle in his car and had just directed it to the shoulder when it suddenly burst into flames. The dashcam and Swisher's body camera both captured the moment the burning car door handle broke off when he tried to open it. "Now, I'm thinking, 'How am I gonna get him out of this car?' And from there, I just put my gloves on," Swisher said. The camera footage shows thick, black smoke billowing from the car's windows with the driver still trapped inside. "I couldn't see inside the vehicle because of the amount of smoke that was pouring out," Swisher recalled. Because he couldn't open the car door, Swisher said he decided to break the car window with his fist in order to pull the driver out to safety. "When the window shattered, that was a little bit of relief for me. 'Cause I knew I had an exit point at that time," he said. Camera footage shows Swisher dragging the driver from the car as it becomes engulfed in flames, pulling him to safety. According to Swisher, the driver, who was the only person in the car, was shaken, but able to walk away without serious injuries. "It's not every day that something like this happens but I was just glad to be in the right place in the right time," Swisher said. The Southlake Police Department honored Swisher with its second-highest honor, the Meritorious Conduct Award, for his quick-thinking and lifesaving actions that day. The award recognizes police employees who demonstrate exceptional courage, professionalism and performance while facing significant danger, according to the department.

NEW: Texas Pediatric Dentist Arrested After 4-Year-Old Dies From Double-Dose of Power

NEW: Texas Pediatric Dentist Arrested After 4-Year-Old Dies From Double-Dose of Powerful Opioid During Routine Tongue-Tie Procedure Dr. Chrishelle Hemphill, 48, owner of Cuddle Kids Dental Care in Fort Worth, was arrested in July 2026 and charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony. The charges stem from the April 1, 2026, death of 4-year-old Aithana Rodriguez Arriaga, who was brought to the clinic for a routine frenectomy. Dr. Hemphill administered an oral liquid solution of Meperidine (Demerol) along with other sedatives and nitrous oxide. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner ruled the death a result of meperidine toxicity. The autopsy found the child had been given double the intended dose, resulting in a blood concentration of 793 nanograms per milliliter — a level considered toxic even for adults. Asha Gilbert was filming herself in her living room as she followed along to a pole dance workout tutorial. Right as she begins spinning on the pole, the top dislodges from the ceiling and hits a fire sprinkler, causing water to shoot everywhere. "Immediately, I'm in shock because I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, this cannot be happening to me,'" said Gilbert. The pole was a recent addition to Gilbert's living room. She says a colleague had given it to her just three days prior. "He was like, 'Hey, I have this pole, I'm giving it away. Do you want it?' And I'm like, 'Yeah, absolutely I want it.," Gilbert said. But when she and a friend installed it, they didn't anchor it to the ceiling. Instead, they relied on the pole's natural tension between ceiling and floor. "It wasn't even a thought that it could possibly hit the sprinkler," Gilbert said. "We were more worried about it hitting a wall." Much of Gilbert's furniture was ruined, and she had to move to a different apartment. She said the water also seeped into a downstairs neighbor's unit. "I explained everything, and she was very, very cool and understanding, and I appreciated that," said Gilbert.
