ROYSE CITY, Texas — A police officer has been fired after viral video showed a violent confrontation with a Black family at a community pool. The Royse City Police Department announced Monday that the officer, who has not been publicly named, was terminated following an Internal Affairs investigation. The officer had been placed on administrative leave after the Aug. 3 incident at the Creekside community pool. Body camera and dash camera footage captured the chaotic scene. In the video, one officer is seen pulling a woman by the hair. Other officers push a woman who was holding a child. Another officer punches a young woman in the face multiple times. Internal Affairs determined the fired officer “did violate department standards, policies and procedures.” The department said the actions of three other officers involved in the video were found to be justified. An 18-year-old who was arrested at the scene will not face charges. The case of a second woman, 35, who was taken into custody for interfering is being referred to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office. Police are also investigating an unidentified third person who allegedly struck an officer in the face. The Next Generation Action Network, which has been advocating for the family, released a statement saying the termination confirms serious misconduct occurred. However, the group said firing one officer cannot be the final step and expressed concern that the department is still pursuing charges against the 35-year-old woman. NGAN is also calling for the full public release of all body-camera and dash-camera footage. Family members have spoken publicly about the incident. One of them, Amaiyah Allen-Smith, said they were at the pool listening to music when an older couple contacted a pool attendant and then called police. The department’s internal investigation is now closed, but the criminal investigation remains open. A Texas police officer found himself in an unexpected showdown outside the station — with an opponent who had wings, no respect for the badge and apparently unlimited rematches. At first, the officer tries to keep an eye on his airborne adversary. Then things escalate. HOUSTON – Uber driver Anthony Baines says it is one of the craziest things that has ever happened to him. He says he was stopping at a stop sign at E. 7 1/2 Street and Oxford Street in The Heights neighborhood, adding he was about a block away from picking up someone who requested a ride. That’s when he saw a man running with no shirt on with two Houston police officers trailing behind. And it was all caught on his car’s dash cam. The second officer is seen with a flashlight approaching Baines’ car. “Hey, give me a ride over there please,” the officer says. “Go, go that way....go go go go go.” “Alright, which way am I going,” Baines asked. “Go that way,” the officers respond, pointing in a certain direction. Baines says he was surprised and shocked when the officer got into his vehicle and ordered him to pursue the suspect. “I’m just running off adrenaline. I am surprised. I’m shocked. I have cops ordering me to do things. I’m going to comply. I didn’t want to resist or anything of that nature,” Baines said. Houston police have confirmed the authenticity of the video and incident. They tell KPRC 2 they received a call reporting the man running in the video had threatened to shoot a mom and her two kids. HPD said the man was upset because he thought someone had stolen from him. Baines’ wife was concerned about the danger of the situation. “Two people signed up to be in those situations. Two people are getting paid to be in those situations. One of them wasn’t, you know. So that was the risk that my wife was concerned about,” Baines said. HPD says when officers tried to detain the man as he was leaving an apartment, he refused to cooperate and took off running. Baines said he understood why the officers got into his car because of the distance between them and the suspect. “The gap between the cops and the suspect, I felt that it would make sense for them to get in a vehicle and pursue the suspect because he was extremely fast. I didn’t think they would be able to catch him on foot,” Baines said. San Elizario, Texas, on March 20, 2026, at approximately 4:59 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple calls about a disturbance in the 12000 block of Campo Bello Drive. Residents reported a man acting erratically, yelling, screaming, climbing into yards, attempting to enter properties, running at full speed and jumping fences while removing clothing. Deputies located 46-year-old Roel Contreras in an open field. He continued acting erratically, rolling on the ground and yelling. As deputies approached for a welfare check. Deputies restrained him with handcuffs and ankle restraints. No weapons, including Tasers or batons, were used. No criminal charges were determined at the time of detention. Shortly after, Contreras lost consciousness. Deputies began CPR. Emergency medical services continued life-saving measures and transported him to Del Sol Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:21 p.m. The El Paso County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death as acute methamphetamine toxicity, with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease as a contributing factor. The manner of death was ruled accidental. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Texas Rangers and Internal Affairs Division conducted investigations. Internal Affairs found no policy violations. The Texas Rangers presented findings to the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office. No charges related to the death were announced. Three deputies were placed on administrative leave pending the reviews. Criminal history: On February 23, 2026, Horizon City Police arrested Contreras and Nancy Altamirano, 43, in the 17000 block of Darrington Road after a domestic disturbance call. Contreras identified himself as a caretaker. Officers observed glass pipes with methamphetamine residue during a welfare check and found an elderly individual and Altamirano in a bedroom. Both were charged with abandoning or endangering a child, elderly individual or disabled individual, booked into El Paso County Jail on $2,000 bonds each. El Paso, TX - The El Paso Police Department wants to remind people to avoid distractions while driving, sharing dramatic bodycam video where a distracted driver narrowly missed running over an officer during a traffic stop. On Friday, EPPD took to social media to share the video of the close call, describing that the motorcycle officer had just pulled over a driver when a distracted driver slammed into the back of the stopped car-- pushing the car about 500 feet forward down the shoulder and miraculously missing the officer.
