Azusa, CA - A man armed with a knife was shot by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday afternoon after authorities say he charged toward a deputy during a confrontation in the Azusa area. The deputy-involved shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of North Orangecrest Avenue in an unincorporated area near Azusa, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Authorities said deputies from the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of an attempted suicide call where a man was harming himself with a knife. When deputies arrived, the man allegedly exited a side gate of the residence while armed and refused repeated commands to surrender the weapon, investigators said. The man then allegedly charged toward the nearest deputy, who was standing near a patrol vehicle, prompting the deputy to open fire. Deputies and firefighters rendered aid at the scene before the man was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, authorities said. Investigators recovered a knife with an approximately 3-inch blade at the scene. Southampton, NY - Body camera footage related to the police-involved shooting of a Southampton man accused of stabbing his mother over 40 times on Mother’s Day was released. Steven Eastwood, 28, was fatally shot by Southampton Town Police on May 10 after officers responded to a 911 call from his mother, who reported he was intoxicated and acting violently inside their Northampton home. Officials previously said responding officers saw him in the house with the knife and attempted to de-escalate the situation. Body camera footage from multiple officers shows them yelling “drop the knife” several times while Eastwood is seen with what appears to be his mother's blood on his sweater, sleeves, and hands. “Got one at gunpoint, send more units,” an officer can be heard saying over the police radio. Body camera footage shows Eastwood briefly stepping out the front door with a knife in hand, pausing to stare outward before turning back inside. He is then seen moving into the room where his mother lies on the floor, where authorities allege he continued the attack as she can be heard intermittently moaning. According to the Attorney General’s Office, two officers fired their service weapons after Eastwood allegedly continued the attack on his mother. He is then seen falling to the ground next to her, where he was later pronounced dead. At a press conference following the shooting, officials said officers shot Eastwood to end his attack on her. The Attorney General’s Office says several knives were recovered at the scene. FLINT, Mich. - A viral video showing gunshots being fired at a gathering outside a Flint gas station over the weekend has caught the attention of police. Sergeant Paul Spann with the Flint Police Department said the gunshots were fired during an unauthorized gathering at a gas station on the corner of Saginaw and Carpenter Road. Spann said their department is still searching for answers about the violence over the weekend, and is working on short and long-term solutions to curb violence in the community. The shooting happened on Sunday, just after 3 a.m. Officers with the Flint police department responded to a call for service at a local hospital and spoke with an adult male who was the victim of a gunshot wound. Spann said the victim confirmed that the shooting occurred at an intersection not far from the gas station seen in the viral video. A manhunt is underway after a student at Pennsylvania State University was shot and killed on Saturday in a potential armed robbery attempt. Billy Schmidt, 22, was blocks away from his home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday at around 1:30 a.m. when he was shot and killed, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. When officers arrived, the college student was found on the street with a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said Billy Schmidt was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 1:47 a.m. Security video given to police shows Schmidt asking for his phone back before several shots were heard that killed the college student. It shows a man throwing a cellphone before another individual can be seen running around a corner being chased by Billy Schmidt, who was then shot in the chest. Billy Schmidt was a senior at Pennsylvania State University, where he was set to graduate in December. "He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone and for him to get shot like that is a travesty," Bill Schmidt said. SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department released body camera footage from a case that resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting. Someone reached out to the police department on May 22 to report that Thomas Nelson, age 33, was suicidal and had pulled out a handgun on a neighbor. Officers arrived within minutes; some took positions near the front of the house, and others took cover behind a truck as they waited for additional resources. Nelson had reportedly gone inside and closed the door. An officer tried to contact Nelson by phone. Nelson came out, dropped the items he was carrying, and pulled a gun from his waistband, the police department said. Officers gave repeated commands for Nelson to drop the gun, but "Nelson racked the slide of the gun and then removed the gun upwards," a press release states. Four officers shot at Nelson. He died at the scene. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave per standard protocol. No other injuries were reported. In Adana, retired police officer Faruk Kayhan argued with his son, Ahmet Kaan Kayhan, who allegedly asked him for money. As the argument escalated, Kayhan shot and killed his son with a gun, then called the police and surrendered. The incident occurred in Elif Su Uludağ Street, Gültepe Neighborhood, Sarıçam district of Adana. Allegedly, Ahmet Kaan Kayhan, who asked his father, retired police officer Faruk Kayhan, for money, started arguing with him when he received a negative response. Ahmet Kaan Kayhan, who is alleged to be a drug addict, reportedly attacked his father with a knife during an argument. In response, Faruk Kayhan pulled out a gun from his waistband and shot his son.
