With a coordinated surveillance and tracking, the crew coordinated with the US Coast Guard Cutter Thetis to successfully interdict the vessel about 51 nautical miles northwest of Desecheo Island. A preliminary count reported 53 migrants of mixed Dominican and Haitian nationalities apprehended. Attempting maritime migration in homemade vessels is extremely dangerous, risking lives due to unpredictable seas, overcrowding, and lack of safety equipment.
