The New York Police Department released bodycam footage showing the fatal August 31 confrontation in Times Square in which officers shot 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros after police said she stabbed two people. The footage shows officers repeatedly ordering Cisneros to drop two knives, followed by the deployment of Tasers and the eventual use of gunfire as she approached while still armed, according to police. One of the stabbing victims, 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, later died, while 68-year-old Tak Kam survived. New York Attorney General Letitia James’ Office of Special Investigations (OSI) launched a probe into a Jackson Heights fatal collision that killed a woman just steps from her home last month after it was determined that the driver of the vehicle was an off-duty NYPD officer. On Saturday, April 25, Alba Giraldo, 67, of 92nd Street in Jackson Heights, was walking home just after 8:45 p.m. and crossing 32nd Avenue in a marked crosswalk when a 27-year-old man driving a 2020 Jeep Gladiator traveling westbound on 32nd Avenue made a left-hand turn onto 92nd Street, where he struck the elderly woman. Police from the 115th Precinct a block from the scene responded and found Giraldo lying on the roadway with severe head trauma. She was rushed by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. The off-duty cop who was behind the wheel of the Jeep remained on the scene and was later transported by EMS to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing, where he was listed in stable condition. An NYPD spokesman could not say if the off-duty cop was assigned to the 115th Precinct. Giraldo succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on Thursday, April 28. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad OSI started its own investigation into the case of May 1, pursuant to New York State Law Section 70-b. OSI assesses every incident reported to it where a police officer or a peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused the death of a person by an act or omission. Under the law, the officer may be on-duty or off-duty, and the decedent may be armed or unarmed. Also, the decedent may or may not be in custody or incarcerated. Authorities say they are still investigating after two people were struck and killed by a train at Manhattan’s Spring Street station early Sunday morning. According to police sources, a man and woman were spotted sitting on the roadbed at around 3:14 a.m. as a southbound 4 train pulled into the station. The motorman attempted to apply the emergency brakes; however, it was too late, and the train struck both individuals. When emergency services arrived, they discovered a 24-year-old woman and an unidentified man in his 20s under the train. EMS pronounced them both dead at the scene. The identity of the female is being withheld pending proper family notification. Police sources say it is currently unclear why the pair were sitting on the tracks. amNewYork reached out to the MTA for comment. The agency confirmed that the deaths took place but did not provide a statement.
